Disability Awareness Weekend, February 1-3
Worship Night, Friday, February 1, 7:30pm: Friday Friends (adults with special needs) will host an hour-long worship night. Great music will be performed by some very talented musicians. All are welcome. If you know of a special need adult, 18 and older, they are welcome to join Friday Friends at 6:00pm that evening, prior to the worship event, for dinner, fellowship and prayer. (For dinner RSVP to June Irick at by January 30.)
Respite care training, Saturday, February 2, 9:30am-noon: This training is for anyone interested in helping with future respite care events. Respite involves caring for a disabled child so that the caretaker/parent can take a much needed breather. Volunteers will help us love on these children while playing games, music, crafts and just having fun. Sign up on the Communications Slip or contact Shelly Welsh at

Starting Point (Connect) is for anyone who is new to the Christian faith, curious about it, or reexamining what it means to have a relationship with God. No cost; begins February 3 at 9:00am in the Fireside Room for ten weeks.
The Good & Beautiful God (Engage), from the Apprentice Series by James Bryan Smith, will help you “discover the narratives that Jesus lived by—to know the Lord he knew and the kingdom he proclaimed.” $20; begins Thursday, February 7 at 7:00pm in the Seminar Room for ten weeks.
Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours (Engage), a video series by highly respected Christian psychologist Kevin Leman teaches, “How to bring out the best in your kids by doing what is best for them.” $5, begins Sunday, February 3 at 9:00am in the Seminar Room for seven weeks.
Managing Your Finances Biblically (Serve), will be done in 2-week segments focusing on the following life stages: Mid-life and Empty Nesters, Sundays, February 3 and 10 at 9:00am; Seniors and Classics, Sundays, February 24 and March 3 at 5:00pm; Young Families and Young Adults, Sundays, April 21 and 28 at 9:00am. All sessions will take place in the Seminar Room.
SPARK group training (Multiply); experience SPARK, a neighborhood group focusing on the question, “What is one risk I can take this week to make myself a better person and the world a better place?” This 90 minute pep-talk/training session will be led by SPARK founder, Jason Jaggard on Thursday, January 31 at 6:30pm in the Seminar Room.

Membership Class, February 8 & 9
Pastor Danny has encouraged us to “press on”. One way to do that is to “cultivate spiritually enriching relational environments”. Going through our upcoming Membership Class and placing your membership with VCC will provide you with a number of opportunities to develop those types of relationships. The next class will be Friday and Saturday, February 8 & 9. Sign up on the Communications Slip to indicate your interest. Childcare will be provided by reservation.
DivorceCare, begins February 21: If you or someone you know is currently struggling with separation or divorce, consider joining us for the next session of DivorceCare starting Thursday, February 21 at 6:00pm. The Significant Marriage Weekend is March 1-3. This is a great opportunity for couples to grow more deeply in their marriage during this weekend led by Dave & Mary Gothi. Discover how God wants to use your and your spouse’s gifts together. Mark your calendars now, registration will begin soon.
Parents’ Date Night–High School Ministries is providing an evening of babysitting on Saturday, February 16, 5:00-8:00pm at the church. The cost is $20 per child with a $50 maximum per family (birth-5th grade, snacks provided). Monies earned will be used to offset the cost of summer mission trips for our students. Brown Bag Sunday, February 17: Bring a bag of groceries to be taken to Valley Bible to fill their Food Pantry (see the Community Life Board for a list of foods). At the end of 2nd service, volunteers will deliver the bags. Livermore Homeless Refuge: Donate supplies to the refuge or volunteer to work one of three night shifts during inclement weather. Contact Dave Peterson, or Tim & Maureen Shearer, Supplies needed: clean used sock & shoes, cup of soup, oatmeal, tea bags, sugar & creamer, paper coffee cups, large & small heavy duty paper plates, toilet paper, paper towels & napkins.
MS EQUIP Conference, February 8-10: We are doing something new this year. It will be a fun weekend full of giving to others, teaching, bonding and playing…just beyond the Golden Gate. The weekend will consist of Friday night in town doing a service project and then we will head off to the Marin Headlands on Saturday morning and stay at the Nature Bridge Golden Gate. The cost for the trip is $140 plus $25 for the service project that we encourage students to raise on their own. Registration and more information is online.
Women’s Bible Study: We are currently finishing up our study of James. During this studywe have been hearing how God has worked and is working in the lives of women in our church. Those stories are powerful and hearing them builds our own faith. A new study begins on February 19/20 on Hebrews, Chapter 11. We will be studying the faith stories of people in the Bible like Abraham and Moses as well as continuing to hear the stories of those we sit and study with. We invite you to join us. Girls’ Night Out: Dinner & Movie: Join us on Friday, February 22, 6:00-9:00pm in the Hall. Bring your friends, neighbors or small group! Upcoming mission trips…
Ethiopia March 6-23: Our Doctors Giving Back team, led by John and Jana Turns, will be doing their annual medical mission trip to Ethiopia. We are collecting: reading glasses, sun glasses, over-the-counter pain relievers, lip balm, eye drops (especially medicated). South Africa July 19-28: Intergenerational trip (adults, students, families) to serve with Camp South Africa. We will encourage leaders living there, visit townships and squatter villages, visit & serve meals to AIDS orphans, run VBS-type programs at local schools, and provide meals to those in need. Guatemala August 5-16: Adult and family trip to northern, rural Guatemala, working with the local church including construction and Vacation Bible School, followed by a visit to the Mayan ruins at Tikal and the Rio Dulce. On our last trip, we had 24 participants, including 12 youth. Scholarships available. First golf tournament of the year! We are taking signups today between services at the Gathering Place and also online (payment preferred online) for the February 16 golf tournament at Wente Vineyards. You do not need to be a member of the VCC golf club to join us, everyone is welcome. The cost is $75 which includes golf, cart, range balls, and prizes. Our first tee time is 11:30am.

Mount Hermon Couples Retreats: Revitalize Your Relationship. “Good Priorities” is a term often related to life choices, but not often to our relationships. A Mount Hermon Couples Retreat grants time to practice priorities. Experience refreshment, intimacy, encouragement, and new ways to enhance your marriage. Speakers and worship leaders are prayerfully selected for these weekends. Every Couples Retreat is a Weekend for Romance including a photo, picnic lunch, candlelight dinner, and specialty chocolates.
